Current Consumption

From our research we found that the US and the rest of the world depend mostly on the three sources: Natural Gas, Coals and Petroleum. According Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the total estimated energy use in the US for 2009 by source came as follow:

  1. Petroleum 35.27%

  2. Natural Gas 23.37%

  3. Coal 19.76%

Moreover, the world energy consumption estimates for 2010 depend on the same three sources of energy totaling 87%. Meaning that the world uses only 13% of alternative sources of energy. When thinking about our future, we should think of the population raises and how is that going to affect our three main sources. More so, how is that going to affect the prices we pay for gas, electricity and other daily needs. Also, we realize that two of the main sources, Petroleum and Coal, are not there for ever.

From our research, the sources we used support our statement that the world depends mostly on the three main sources: Natural Gas, Coals and Petroleum. While countries keep consuming these resources, we feel that there is a need to replace Petroleum and Coal. In the next section, we propose a solution for the future that is greener and efficient.
